When people think of Barcelona, they often imagine Gaudí’s architecture and the bustling city center. However, during the summer, locals seek quieter coastal towns by the sea. Today, I’d like to introduce seven summer destinations near Barcelona that locals love.

1. Palamós

Palamós is famous for its fresh seafood and beautiful beaches. In particular, ‘Gambas de Palamós,’ a type of red shrimp, is a must-try delicacy. Exploring the seafood market near the port and mingling with the locals was a delightful experience. The lively atmosphere of the market made the trip even more exciting. Walking along the beach, there are many great spots to enjoy a stunning sunset.

2. Begur – Super Top 🌟

Begur is a charming town where medieval castles and picturesque beaches coexist. Walking along the stone streets, you’ll come across lovely boutiques and cafes. Stumbling upon a small café by chance was an amazing discovery—the unique atmosphere left a lasting impression. The panoramic view of the sea from the lookout point was truly breathtaking. Various cultural events are also held during the summer, adding to the enjoyment.

3. Palafrugell

This quiet seaside town is perfect for a relaxing getaway. The weekend markets offer a variety of local specialties and traditional foods. Browsing the market and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere was a joy. The local olive oil and cheese are must-buy items. Strolling through the narrow streets of the village, you can find artists displaying their works at every corner.

4. Llafranc

Llafranc is a peaceful beach town popular among Barcelona locals. Taking a stroll along the beach made me feel like time had stopped. Small yachts are docked at the harbor, and nearby restaurants offer fresh seafood dishes. Watching the sunset while enjoying a meal was a truly healing experience. The beachfront promenade is a favorite spot for families visiting the town.

5. L’Escala

L’Escala is well known for its anchovies. Gazing at the town’s historic architecture, I could really feel its rich history. There are numerous anchovy specialty shops around the harbor where you can try different dishes. I tried a simple anchovy sandwich as a street food snack, and its salty flavor was truly memorable. The annual anchovy festival offers a great opportunity to savor various dishes and have a special experience.

6. Tossa de Mar – Super Top 🌟

Tossa de Mar is a coastal town featuring a beautiful medieval fortress, offering a glimpse into the past. Walking along the castle walls and gazing at the blue sea was an unforgettable experience—it was even more stunning than I had imagined. The charming cafés and restaurants inside the fortress provide a perfect setting to relax. The nighttime view from the fortress is something you shouldn’t miss.

7. Cadaqués

Cadaqués, a small seaside town loved by Salvador Dalí, is filled with an artistic atmosphere. Walking through its narrow alleys, you’ll discover numerous galleries and souvenir shops. Wandering the quiet streets made me feel as if time had stood still. These moments are what make travel so special. The small music performances held along the beach add a magical touch to the visit.
